The following are some of the latest scams received in our area. Please be on the alert for these and other possible scams. If you are not sureabout anything then please use www.snopes.com or www.truthorfiction.com to check authenticity but at all times if you are not sure then do not reply.
Google Mail & Friends asking for help

As you try to log on to your GMail account a message pops up saying that your account has been blocked for security reasons and to protect you.  It reassures you that all is well but to re-activate your account you need to log in again.  The page, message and general format all look very convincing.  Once they have acccess to your account, the scammers then begin to send hoax emails to people in your contact list.  One of the worst, is where you receive an email from one of your friends saying they are in trouble and need money urgently (the usual stories are that they have lost their passport, cant pay their hotel bill, been arrested etc).  The email will look genuine as they have access to all your friends email addresses, mobile numbers and any other personal information you have entered into your contact list.
